Significant aviation news for the Vietnamese community in Australia: Vietjet has announced direct non-stop flights connecting Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) with the new Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) starting January 2027. This marks one of the premier international flight services directly linking Vietnam with Sydney’s major new aviation gateway.

Vietjet Direct Flights HCMC to Western Sydney 2027

According to official announcements, the inaugural flight from Ho Chi Minh City is scheduled to depart on 9 January 2027. Initially operating at a frequency of 2 return flights per week, the service provides convenient travel options for the large Vietnamese diaspora, international students, and business travelers situated across Western Sydney.

Flight schedule details

  • HCMC (SGN) → Western Sydney (WSI): Tuesdays and Saturdays, departing at 21:20 and arriving at WSI at 10:00 the following morning.
  • Western Sydney (WSI) → HCMC (SGN): Wednesdays and Sundays, departing at 12:05 and touching down in HCMC at 16:30 the same day.

Strategic connectivity for Western Sydney’s growing population

Western Sydney represents one of Australia’s fastest-growing urban corridors and hosts a prominent Vietnamese-Australian population. The direct link to Western Sydney International eliminates lengthy commutes across metropolitan Sydney to Kingsford Smith Airport.

For international students enrolled at institutions such as Western Sydney University (WSU), the route offers exceptional convenience for semester breaks and family visits.

Catalyst for the Western Sydney Aerotropolis

As an anchor infrastructure development, Western Sydney International anchors the emerging Western Sydney Aerotropolis—a major high-tech, logistics, and educational precinct. Vietjet’s new route expands bilateral trade, student recruitment, and tourism between Vietnam and Australia.
