3 Crucial Policy Changes in Australia from July 2026: What the Vietnamese Community Needs to Know

July marks the commencement of the new Australian Financial Year, bringing consequential statutory updates across migration income thresholds, national wage floors, and visa fee schedules. For the Vietnamese community—particularly international students, temporary graduate visa holders, and employer-sponsored candidates—staying informed ensures compliance and strategic financial planning.

3 Major Australian Policy Changes July 2026

1. Subclass 482 & 186 CSIT minimum salary threshold rises to AUD 79,423

The Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) increased by 3.8% from AUD 76,515 to AUD 79,423 per annum. All new Subclass 482 and Subclass 186 employer nominations lodged from 1 July 2026 onward must meet or exceed this statutory minimum.

2. National Minimum Wage rises to AUD 26.44 per hour

The Fair Work Commission enacted a 4.75% increase to the National Minimum Wage, raising baseline pay to AUD 26.44/hour (AUD 1,004.90/week for a standard 38-hour week). Modern Award classification wages also adjusted upwards across hospitality, retail, and aged care sectors.

3. Student Visa 500 fee revisions and ASEAN concessions

Statutory visa application charges (VAC) for Student Visa (Subclass 500) adjusted to AUD 2,500 standard, with ASEAN passport holders (including Vietnamese nationals) qualifying for concession rates at AUD 2,050.
