Public transport across Melbourne has officially inaugurated contactless Tap and Go payment technology, allowing commuters to pay fares directly with bank cards, Apple Pay, or Google Pay as a modern alternative to traditional Myki cards.
This initiative represents one of the most substantial technological upgrades to Victoria’s transit ticketing infrastructure in nearly a decade.
Frictionless Travel Without Physical Myki Cards
Commuters can tap on and tap off at fare gates using:
- Visa and Mastercard debit or credit cards.
- Smartphones with digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Wallet, Samsung Pay).
- NFC-enabled smartwatches.
Phased Network Rollout
The contactless system launched across key metropolitan train corridors (including Frankston, Cranbourne, Pakenham, Sandringham, Sunbury, Werribee, Lilydale, and Glen Waverley lines) as well as regional V/Line services to Geelong and Bendigo.
