After a day of work or study, it’s easy to come home and just want to lie down, scroll through your phone, or rest. You know you have a lot of work to get done. You also know that if you do a little extra work in the evening, tomorrow will be easier. But the problem is that the energy is exhausted, and the brain just wants to rest.

<picture></picture>

Instead of trying to force yourself to work at 100% productivity every night, there is a more realistic way: learn to work according to your remaining energy level. Here are 6 ways that can help you maintain your studies and work after a long day without feeling overwhelmed.

1. Don’t just set a start time, set an end time too

One of the common mistakes when working in the evening is to just think: “I’ll start at 8 o’clock tonight.” But if you don’t have an end time, it’s easy to fall into a state of prolonged work without knowing when to stop. Instead, set yourself a specific time period and a clear goal. For example:

20:00 – 21:00: complete the article outline.

21:00 – 21:30: read and take notes.

21:30: stop and rest.

The important thing is not that you do a lot, but that in that time, you know exactly what you need to accomplish. A clear time limit also creates a form of “positive pressure.” When you know you only have 60 minutes, you will tend to focus more and limit work while checking your phone, social networks or other unnecessary things. When it’s time to finish, give yourself permission to stop. Rest is also part of productivity.

2. Choose work based on the type of energy you have left

Being tired doesn’t always mean you can’t do anything. Sometimes the problem is that you are trying to use the wrong type of energy. If you’ve been sitting in front of your computer all day, processing emails, writing content, or doing work that requires a lot of concentration, continuing to sit in front of the screen for a few more hours in the evening can quickly drain you. Instead, change the activity type.

<picture></picture>

For example:

Read the document instead of continuing to type on the computer.

Make slides instead of writing a long article.

Listen to English instead of studying theory.

Clean your room or go for a light walk after a period of studying.

You can also alternate between mental activity and physical activity. For example, study for 60 minutes and then spend 10–15 minutes cleaning your room, walking around, or doing light exercise before returning to work. This change helps you avoid feeling stuck on a single task for too long.

3. Prepare your “first move” in advance

One of the most dangerous times of the evening is right after you enter the house. You can say to yourself: “Let’s rest for 5 minutes and then do it.” Then open the phone. 5 minutes becomes 30 minutes. 30 minutes became an hour. Finally, you realize the evening has passed without getting anything done. A simple way to avoid this is to decide in advance the first thing you will do when you get home.

Don’t just think: “I have to study tonight.” Be more specific: “When I get home, I will change clothes, drink water, open my laptop and open the documents I am studying.” Or: “When I get home, I will open my email and properly respond to an important email.” The clearer the first action, the easier it is to get started. And once you’ve started, it’s often easier to take the next step.

4. When tired, turn on “battery saving mode”

There is a truth to accept: Not every day you can operate at 100% capacity. There are days when you are strong, concentrate well, and can get a lot done. But there are also days when you only have 30–40% energy left. The point is not to force yourself to be 100% on those days. Instead, prepare a list of lighter tasks that still make progress.

For example:

Create an outline for your article.

Sort documents.

Review the notes.

Learn English in a short time.

Prepare your to-do list for tomorrow.

Read a few pages of the document.

These things may seem small, but they help you maintain the momentum of progress. A day of doing 30% is better than wanting to do 100% but in the end not being able to do anything.

5. Create a transition ritual

After leaving school or work, your body is home but your brain may still be in work mode. So, before starting a new study or work session, take about 10 minutes to switch status. It could be:

Bath.

Change clothes.

Light walking.

Do some exercise.

Take a short nap.

Sit still for a moment and do not look at the screen.

The goal is not to “waste” 10 minutes. On the contrary, this is the time that helps the brain understand that: One period of the day has ended and a new period is beginning. When there is a ritual repeated regularly, the body and brain will gradually form an association with it. After a while, just doing that ritual will make it easier for you to transition into a state of readiness to study or work.

6. Change the question you ask yourself every night

There is a very easy question that makes you feel pressured: “What can I do tonight?” If your to-do list is very long, this question can make you feel like you’re always not good enough. Instead, try changing it to: “What will I leave tonight for tomorrow’s self?” This way of thinking creates a completely different perspective. You don’t have to complete everything in one evening. You just need to do something to make your tomorrow a little easier. Maybe complete part of the article. Maybe prepare documents. Maybe study for an extra 20 minutes. It can be as simple as planning for the next day. These small things are like you are “sending” a gift to yourself tomorrow.

It’s not always about doing more

After a long day, it’s completely normal that you don’t have enough energy to work like you did in the morning. The important thing is not to force yourself to always be at maximum productivity. What’s more important is knowing how to use the remaining energy wisely. Set an end time instead of just a start time. Choose a job that matches your status. Prepare your first move. Know when to turn on “battery saving mode” and create a ritual to transition from work to study.

And finally, instead of asking yourself, “How much did I get done today?” Try asking: “What can I do today to make my tomorrow easier?” Sometimes, a productive evening isn’t one where you get a lot done. It’s the evening where you do just enough to not give up and keep moving forward.

A new policy proposal related to student visas is attracting significant attention in Australia in 2026, as immigration continues to be a major topic in political debates. The proposal directly targets international students, particularly those who change their study pathways during their stay.

One Nation’s Proposal to Tighten Student Visas

The proposal was introduced by the One Nation party led by Senator Pauline Hanson. Under the plan, international students who wish to switch to a new course after discontinuing their current program may be required to leave Australia before applying for further studies. One Nation argues that this measure aims to reduce “course-hopping,” where students repeatedly change institutions or majors to extend their stay in Australia.

Senator Pauline Hanson stated that some international students are exploiting loopholes in the visa system, including the use of Bridging Visas to remain legally in the country while their study plans remain unclear. According to her, this not only undermines the original purpose of the student visa but also adds pressure to housing, infrastructure, and the broader immigration system.

Possible Changes if the Proposal Is Implemented

If approved, the policy could require students to leave Australia before applying for a new course and may further restrict multiple course or institution changes. In addition, the use of Bridging Visas in certain cases could be limited, and appeal rights for rejected applications may also be reduced. The overall goal is to ensure that student visas are used strictly for educational purposes rather than as a way to extend residency.

Context: Australia Reducing Immigration Targets

This proposal comes as the Australian government continues to significantly reduce immigration levels. From 538,000 in 2023, the intake dropped to 429,000 in 2024 and 306,000 in 2025. The long-term target is expected to fall further to around 225,000. This trend shows that immigration and visa policies, including student visas, are becoming increasingly strict.

Debate Over Australia’s 2026 Student Visa Policy

The proposal has sparked mixed reactions. Some support stricter regulations, arguing they are necessary to maintain visa integrity and reduce pressure on housing and infrastructure.

On the other hand, education and economic experts warn that international students contribute significantly to Australia’s economy through tuition fees, living expenses, and part-time work. Excessive tightening could reduce Australia’s attractiveness compared to countries like Canada or the United Kingdom.

What Students Should Prepare For

Given the ongoing policy changes, international students and those planning to study in Australia are advised to plan their study pathways carefully, avoid unnecessary course changes, and stay updated with immigration regulations. Proper documentation and compliance with visa conditions will be essential to reduce risks during their studies and stay in Australia.

2026 is considered a pivotal year for Australia’s immigration policy adjustments. Although the proposal requiring students to leave Australia before reapplying for study has not yet been passed, it reflects a clear trend toward stricter oversight of international students. This suggests that studying and potentially migrating to Australia may become more challenging in the near future.

This is considered one of the most significant upgrades to Victoria’s public transport system in nearly a decade, marking a major step forward in modernizing the commuting experience.

Easy payments without a Myki card

Amid rising living costs, Australia is entering a notable transition phase in its energy sector. From 2026, millions of households will have the opportunity to use electricity for free during midday hours—an unprecedented policy.

This is not only a cost-of-living support measure but also a strategic solution to address the growing surplus of solar energy generated across the country.

Utilising Excess Solar Power

Statistics show that more than one-third of Australian households have installed rooftop solar systems. This creates a significant surplus of electricity during the daytime, placing pressure on the national grid.

To address this, the government and state authorities have introduced programs encouraging people to use electricity during midday, when supply is at its peak.

Solar Sharer program available in NSW, South Australia, and South East Queensland from July 1, 2026

Midday Power Saver program rolling out across Victoria from 2027

Free electricity window: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM daily

Eligibility Requirements

To participate, households need a smart meter to track real-time electricity usage. Users must also actively sign up or switch to suitable plans offered by energy providers. The program applies to all households, including renters and apartment residents.

Who Benefits the Most?

The groups that can maximise this policy include:

People working from home, homemakers, and retirees

Households with electric vehicles or battery storage systems

Users with smart home systems or timer-based appliances

Charging electric vehicles, running washing machines, air conditioning, or storing energy during free hours can significantly reduce monthly electricity bills.

Important Considerations to Avoid Higher Bills

While the policy offers clear benefits, there are also potential risks. Energy retailers may increase prices during evening peak hours to offset costs.

Therefore, users need to adjust their electricity usage habits, shifting high-consumption activities to the free midday period to maximise savings.

Opportunities Come with Adaptation

The free midday electricity policy represents a major step in restructuring Australia’s energy market. However, to fully benefit, households must proactively adapt and optimise their energy usage.

This is not only an opportunity to save costs but also a contribution toward a more sustainable energy future.

A new technology developed in Canberra, Australia, is opening up the potential to significantly reduce global milk waste, which currently exceeds 150 million tonnes each year. This solution enables dairy producers to assess raw milk quality within minutes, instead of waiting several days as required by traditional testing methods.

The technology, known as Cybertongue, was developed by PPB Technology and uses advanced biosensors to detect factors that may impact milk quality. This allows manufacturers to quickly determine the appropriate processing level and avoid unnecessary waste.

Reducing Testing Time from Days to Minutes

Previously, dairy companies had to send samples to laboratories and wait two to three days for results. With Cybertongue, the entire process can now be completed on-site in approximately three minutes.

Stephen Trowell, founder of PPB Technology, explained that the system measures how sensitive raw milk is to protease enzymes—one of the key factors that can reduce product quality and shelf life.

“Some dairy products, especially UHT milk, are more sensitive to these enzymes. With better control, we can extend shelf life and significantly reduce losses,” he said.

Reducing Waste Through Smarter Classification

By accurately identifying enzyme levels, producers can better classify raw milk. Lower-quality batches can still be used for products like cheese or yogurt, rather than being completely discarded.

The technology also helps identify issues across the supply chain, from farms to processing plants, allowing for more efficient production and reduced losses.

It is estimated that if widely adopted, Cybertongue could reduce between one-third and one-half of global milk waste—equivalent to more than 70 million tonnes annually.

From Explosives Detection to Food Innovation

The foundation of Cybertongue originated from research conducted at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency. Initially, the technology was designed to detect explosive vapors and assess wine quality.

After more than 30 years of development, Trowell recognized its broader potential in the food industry and established a company to commercialize the innovation.

“We realized this technology could be applied across multiple industries, including food, environmental monitoring, and healthcare,” he noted.

Global Impact on Food Security

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), global milk production reached approximately 979 million tonnes in 2024. However, around one-sixth of this supply is lost or wasted.

UHT milk accounts for a large share of global consumption, particularly in developing countries where cold storage systems are limited. Improving shelf life in these regions is critical for both nutrition and food security.

This new technology not only helps Australian producers reduce export risks but also enables other countries to extend product shelf life from a few months to up to six months.

Future Applications in Food Safety

Cybertongue is already being used in regions including North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. In the future, it could be expanded to detect allergens and bacterial toxins in food.

Trowell believes this innovation could represent a major breakthrough not only for the dairy industry but also for global food safety, potentially evolving into a multi-billion-dollar technology platform.

An immigration law firm in Australia has unexpectedly gone into liquidation, leaving many visa applicants in a situation where they have “lost money and lost control of their applications.” The incident raises serious concerns about the risks of choosing unreliable migration agents, especially as visa policies become increasingly strict.

Clients Left Vulnerable After Law Firm Ceases Operations

Gold Migration Lawyers, based in Melbourne, has officially ceased operations and entered liquidation after notifying clients via email that it could no longer provide legal representation for their visa applications.

The sudden announcement left many clients confused and unprepared, as they were unable to confirm the status of their applications. Some reported paying thousands to tens of thousands of Australian dollars, yet are now unable to access their case information or continue the process.

In some cases, applicants now face the risk of their visas expiring while their applications remain unresolved, potentially forcing them to leave Australia unexpectedly.

Risk of Financial Loss and Disrupted Visa Applications

Many clients stated they had paid substantial fees to the firm with the expectation of full-service support throughout their visa process. However, the firm’s closure has left them not only financially impacted but also without control over their applications.

In some situations, applicants are unaware of the stage their application has reached, lack access to submitted documents, or do not know which authority is handling their case. This is particularly concerning as deadlines set by the Department of Home Affairs continue to apply.

Missing deadlines can lead to serious consequences, including visa refusals, cancellations, or loss of appeal rights.

What Should Applicants Do in This Situation?

According to migration experts, applicants can regain control of their visa applications by taking the appropriate steps. The first step is to create or log into an ImmiAccount and link the visa application directly to their personal account.

Once linked, applicants can access the full communication history with the Department of Home Affairs, check application status, and continue submitting documents if required.

Applicants should also update their contact details and remove the previous representative to ensure all important notifications are sent directly to them.

However, managing a visa application independently can be challenging without experience. In such cases, seeking a reputable migration consultant to take over and handle the application is often the safer option.

Choosing a Reliable Migration Consultant

This incident highlights the risks of selecting migration service providers that lack transparency or sufficient expertise. Visa applications are closely tied to an individual’s future in terms of study, work, and migration, and therefore require careful consideration.

In Australia, migration service providers must comply with strict legal requirements and maintain transparency in both case management and financial dealings. Applicants should prioritise organisations with proven experience, clear processes, and the ability to provide long-term support.

In a rapidly changing migration environment, De1 Consultancy is recognised as a provider of education, travel, and migration consulting services in Australia, with over five years of experience supporting hundreds of applications annually.

De1 Consultancy focuses on long-term client support, from initial preparation through to visa outcomes and settlement in Australia.

In cases where applications are disrupted or require urgent handling, their team can review the entire process and ensure that clients do not miss critical deadlines set by the Department of Home Affairs.

With practical experience and in-depth knowledge of visa policies, De1 Consultancy helps minimise risks and improve the chances of success for each application.

The collapse of an immigration law firm not only causes financial damage but also directly impacts the future of many visa applicants. As Australia’s visa policies become increasingly strict, choosing the right advisory service is no longer optional—it is essential.

Applicants must proactively monitor their applications and seek support from reputable providers to protect their rights and avoid unnecessary risks.

How to Verify the Credibility of a Migration Service Provider in Australia

The Gold Migration Lawyers case serves as a reminder that applicants should not rely solely on advertising or social media reviews when choosing a migration service provider.

One of the simplest ways to verify a business in Australia is by checking its Australian Business Number (ABN). This number is issued by the government and can be publicly verified through the ABN Lookup system.

Through ABN Lookup, users can confirm whether a business is legally active, its registration date, GST status, and other public information. This is considered a basic step before making any payment or signing a service agreement.

In addition to ABN verification, applicants should review the company’s operational history, physical office location, representative details, and feedback from previous clients. For migration service providers, checking professional registration and licensing is also essential.

ABN Lookup is a free tool provided by the Australian Business Register (ABR), allowing users to search for businesses by name, ABN, or ACN and verify their operational status before engaging their services.

At De1 Consultancy, transparency is a top priority. Clients are encouraged to verify business details, understand the process, and track their application status throughout the consultation. With over five years of experience in travel, education, and migration services, De1 Consultancy is committed to building trust through clarity, professionalism, and long-term client support.

The period from 2023 to 2026 marks a significant shift in Australia’s visa management policy. As the country reopened after the pandemic, it simultaneously tightened control over individuals already residing within its borders. Data shows a sharp increase in visa cancellations during 2024–25, followed by a decline in 2025–26, reflecting a more proactive and strategic approach to migration management rather than a reactive one.

Post-COVID Phase: From Recovery to Tightened Control

In the 2023–24 financial year, more than 28,000 visas were cancelled. This number surged to over 37,000 in 2024–25, marking the highest level since the pandemic. This trend indicates that the Australian government has significantly intensified its monitoring and enforcement efforts against individuals who no longer meet visa conditions.

This increase is not coincidental but reflects a systemic policy shift. While previous strategies focused on controlling entry through application assessments, Australia is now managing the entire visa lifecycle from issuance to exit from the system.

Student Visas: The Core Focus of Enforcement

Among all visa categories, student visas have been the most affected. The number of cancelled student visas rose sharply from nearly 14,000 to over 21,000 within just one year, accounting for more than half of all cancellations in 2024–25.

This surge reflects growing concerns about the integrity of international student cohorts. Issues such as failure to maintain enrolment, working beyond permitted hours, or using student visas as a pathway for indirect migration have placed this group under increased scrutiny.

Rather than focusing solely on attracting international students, current policies aim to ensure that visa holders genuinely meet study requirements and comply with all conditions.

Other Visa Categories: Monitored but Not Primary Targets

Tourist and temporary visas continue to be monitored, although they have not experienced the same level of fluctuation as student visas. Tourist visa cancellations have shown a gradual decline after peaking in 2023–24, while temporary visas saw a modest increase before stabilising.

This indicates that current policies are not uniformly applied across all visa types but are instead targeted toward categories considered higher risk from a compliance perspective.

2024–2025: Peak of Visa Enforcement Strategy

With more than 37,000 visa cancellations, the 2024–25 period represents the peak of enforcement activity. During this time, multiple policy measures were introduced, including stricter eligibility criteria and enhanced post-grant compliance checks.

External pressures such as housing shortages, labour market constraints, and infrastructure capacity also contributed to the government’s decision to take a more aggressive stance on migration control.

2025–2026: A Technical Decline

Data for 2025–26 shows a significant drop in visa cancellations to just over 16,000. However, this is likely due to incomplete reporting for the financial year rather than a genuine policy relaxation.

The composition of cancellations still indicates that student visas remain the dominant category, reinforcing the view that strict controls are ongoing.

Long-Term Trend: Quality Over Quantity

Overall, the 2023–2026 period demonstrates a clear shift in Australia’s migration strategy. The focus is no longer on how many visas are issued, but on who remains in the system and whether they comply with the conditions attached to their visa.

This means that holding a valid visa no longer guarantees long-term stay. Visa holders must continuously meet all conditions or risk cancellation at any time.

The rising trend of visa cancellations reflects a more selective and controlled migration system. Student visas are at the centre of enforcement, while other visa categories remain under supervision but with less intensity.

For individuals planning to study or work in Australia, this environment demands greater transparency, compliance, and clarity of purpose. This is not a short-term shift but a long-term direction likely to shape Australia’s visa policies in the coming years.

How to Avoid Student Visa Cancellation in Australia

In an increasingly strict regulatory environment, holding a valid visa does not guarantee your right to remain in Australia until its expiry date. Many visas are cancelled before expiry due to non-compliance with conditions.

This requires students to proactively monitor their visa status and ensure full compliance throughout their stay.

a. Do Not Rely Solely on Visa Expiry Date

A common misconception is that a valid visa remains secure until its expiry. In reality, authorities can cancel a visa at any time if conditions are no longer met. Regular checks via ImmiAccount or VEVO are essential.

b. CoE and Enrolment Status Are Critical

The Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is not just an entry requirement but the legal foundation of a student visa. If a CoE is cancelled, the visa may also be at risk.

c. Attendance and Academic Progress Matter

Attending classes and meeting academic requirements are no longer formalities. Institutions report student performance, and non-compliance may lead to monitoring or cancellation.

d. Working Conditions Must Be Respected

Breaching work-hour limits or failing to comply with employment conditions can result in serious consequences, including visa cancellation.

e. Always Monitor Official Communications

Important notifications from schools or the Department of Home Affairs may require timely responses. Ignoring them can escalate minor issues into serious risks.

f. Follow Proper Procedures for Deferral

Deferring studies must be formally approved. Unauthorised breaks can lead to visa breaches.

g. Prepare Documents When Re-entering Australia

Border authorities may request proof of enrolment and visa status. Ensure all documents are up to date.

h. Be Cautious When Leaving Australia

Leaving Australia during a “sensitive” visa status (e.g. cancelled CoE or bridging visa) may affect your ability to return. Seek professional advice before travelling.

Compliance Is No Longer Optional

Australia’s visa system is evolving into a stricter and more controlled framework. Compliance is no longer an advantage it is a requirement. Understanding and following visa conditions is essential to maintaining your legal status in Australia.

Rising Living Costs Make Internet a Financial Burden

In recent years, Australians have faced growing financial pressure from rising rent, utility bills, and everyday expenses. Among these, internet services have become a notable cost for many households.

Despite being an essential service for education, work, and social connection, many people continue to pay high prices simply because they are unaware of available support programs.

Free Internet for Students: School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI)

One of the most significant programs is the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI), which provides free internet access to eligible low-income families with school-aged children.

Key benefits include:

100% free monthly internet service

Free modem and installation

Available until 30 June 2028

The program is designed for families who have school-aged children and have not previously had an active home internet connection. While new registrations may be limited, existing participants continue to receive full benefits.

Discounted Internet for Centrelink Card Holders

Australians holding concession cards such as the Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card may be eligible for discounted internet plans offered by various service providers.

Several internet providers in Australia currently offer affordable NBN plans starting from as low as 39–45 AUD per month during promotional periods, helping households significantly reduce their expenses.

Popular Low-Cost Internet Plans

Provider

Speed Plan

Promo Price

Standard Price

SpinTel

NBN 25

39 AUD/month

64.95 AUD/month

Dodo

NBN 25

40 AUD/month

71.99 AUD/month

Superloop

NBN 25/10

45 AUD/month

72 AUD/month

Telsim

NBN 12

39.90 AUD/month

Same ongoing price

How to Save on Internet Costs in Australia

1. Ask Your Provider About Discounts: Contact your internet provider directly and inquire about special offers for low-income households or concession card holders.

2. Take Advantage of Introductory Deals: Many providers offer significant discounts during the first 6 months. Switching providers periodically can help maintain lower costs.

3. Apply for Priority Assistance if Needed: Households with medical needs can request priority services to ensure stable connections and faster issue resolution.

With the rising cost of living in Australia, taking advantage of internet support programs is a practical way to reduce financial pressure. Households are encouraged to review their current plans and explore available options to avoid missing out on valuable benefits.
