Curriculum

To complete the Bachelor of Agriculture program, students must complete 24 units (144 credit points), comprising core units, a major, and a minor or electives.

The curriculum provides a comprehensive foundation in agricultural science, technology, and modern agricultural production management through the following units:

1. Introduction to Agricultural Systems
Explore agricultural production systems, the interconnectedness of crops, livestock, environment, and key factors driving sustainable industry development.

2. Life Science Fundamentals
Develop essential knowledge in biology, genetics, physiology, and life science principles underpinning agricultural systems.
*Includes a compulsory Residential School.

3. Scientific Research Fundamentals
Learn research design, data collection and analysis, critical thinking, and applied scientific research methodologies in agriculture.

4. Soil and Irrigation Management
Study soil characteristics, nutrient management, efficient land resource utilization, and modern irrigation systems to optimize crop yield.
*Includes a compulsory Residential School.

5. Plant Science and Crop Production
Gain expertise in plant physiology, agronomic techniques, crop management, and methods to boost agricultural productivity.
*Includes a compulsory Residential School.

6. Plant and Livestock Breeding Strategies
Learn modern breeding methods and strategies to enhance crop and livestock traits for improved production efficiency.
*Includes a compulsory Residential School.

7. Professional Placement or Project
Students choose between an industry placement or a research project, applying theoretical knowledge to live workplace environments and developing specialist skills.

8. Agriculture Technology Transformation: The Future of Food and Fibre
Discover emerging technological trends including Smart Agriculture, automation, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and innovative solutions in modern primary industries.
